The Town of Red Oak operates under the Mayor Council form of government. The council is a non-partisan board consisting of a Mayor and four council members who are elected to serve four-year terms. The Mayor presides at all meetings and only votes in the event of a tie vote. As the legislative body of the town, the council adopts the annual budget, ordinances, resolutions, establishes policies, programs and procedures necessary for governing Red Oak. The Mayor and Council appoints a Town Attorney who gives legal advice to the governing body.
The Town Clerk is responsible for preparing the annual budget and administering in in accordance with the Mayor and Council’s direction. The Clerk also serves as the administrator over all departments and functions of the Town of Red Oak and is directly supervised by the Mayor.
Council meetings are held on the second Monday of each month in the Town Hall at 6:30 pm. Unless posted all meetings are open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend and speak during the open forum at the close of each meeting. If you have a matter that you wish to have considered by the council, you will need to submit your request and relevant information to the Town Clerk no later than one week prior to the scheduled meeting.
